Mad World

Once in a while you stumble upon a song that touches you. The first time you hear it, your world just stops and you can't think of anything else than finding out who did that song. And after you find it, you wonder why you haven't heard anything about that artist before. In the following weeks you play that song over and over and try to find all the versions of that song and read the lyrics over and over again trying to understand all the hidden meanings in the song.

Last week I found one song that did this to me. Found from friskyradio podcast 114, Gerardo Boscarino [Part 003], starting around 23:30 and stopping around 30:00. The lyrics start from 26:45. First time I heard it was in a metro early in the morning, when I was once again doing what I normally do in metro: trying to quess what kind a people are sitting near me just by looking them. Somehow the starting lyrics just hit me: "All around me are familiar faces, Worn out places, Worn out faces".

As soon as I got to the office, I started to look for the lyrics and the original artist and after a while, founded out. Tears for Fears - Mad World, released in 1982. So, it was released the same year I was born. Nice coincidence. I had never heard about a band like that. After few youtube-videos and some googling, noticed that the version in the friskyradio podcast is sang by Gary Jules. And the video is also kind a nice. Allthough, the Tears for Fears live versions are the best ones I found.

I still can't point exactly, what is it in that song that hits me so hard, but it just does. The part "When people run in circles, It's a very very, Mad world..." just fits to the feelings I'm having right now.

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places
Worn out faces

Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere
Going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses
no expression
No expression

Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
no tomorrow
No tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which i'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'cause I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very very
Mad world
Mad world
Mad world
Mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday
Happy birthday

Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen
Sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me
No one knew me

Now the teacher tells me what's my lesson
Look right through me
Look right through me

And I find it kind of funny...
